Sakarachi & Straneus - Jamison (JT redrumed version)

Took a little break. You know, Memorial day and the like. You will be glad to hear that I met my goal of trying to eat my weight in pasta salad on Sunday. I would consider it a successful weekend.

As the esteemed reader will recall, we posted this Sakarchi & Straneus track a couple of months ago. Even though it was only a couple minutes long  it is still my most listened too song this year. And, as the august reader will undoubtedly notice, this version is somewhat different. That's because this is a remix from John Talabot, one of our favs already. Its like getting a milk shake made out of brownies and girl scout mint cookies. It's almost too much flavor for one song.

So, go out in the world knowing that John Talabot is out there taking awesome songs and make them more awesome. Rest easily knowing this and be grateful.

Jus Ed - AM Mix

Pabst Blue Ribbon!!!!!!

Not very summer-ish, I know. Maybe somewhat contemplative, or even meditative. This was released (or re-released, I can't tell) on Omar S's label, FXHE. (I know, we can't go two days without it all coming back to Omar S, I know.) Either way, I can hear the similarities here - clearly a Detroit influenced track that took a right hand turn, ended up making friends with a House vibe, and they had a baby and it was this track. That bass really does it for me, with those analogish creepy sythns, and then that broken bell that drops about two minuets in - not bad, not bad at all.

Ok, more summer-like tracks tomorrow. I promise.

Rick Poppa Howard - Do What You Have to Do

Like a starving man I will swoop in and devour any new 'Poppa' Howard track I stumble upon.

The vocals are clearly the main course here. The meat on those bones, if you well. They are the burning of the fire in this plant that powers everything else. They are a giant flywheel that starts off slow at first but whose momentum propels it forward. The gravitational field that makes everything else fall into.

You get the idea - its a bitching track to be enjoyed on a warm summer night. With a cocktail. And someone.

Polar Pair - Hip Shakin' Mama

I'm thinking about changing my resume so it just has my name and underneath it says: "Well skilled at poetry and laughing over wine."

That's it. Nothing else.

I think today's photo of a girl in bikini shooting a bow and arrow on the beat is appropriate for this track.

A manic track? Possibly, even inspired, some listeners might think.

I'm going to go with aroused. I think its more to the point.

Mark E - Call Me

Giving him the Ol' Stink Bone, I see.

Synonyms for timeless:
Deathless
Ageless
Undying
Immutable
Imperishable

Names that I came up with today in class that use the word "stink":
Stinky Knee
Stink Ears
Stink Rope
Stink Bone
Stink Street

Isley Brothers - Here We Go Again

Really grad school? Jesus. Christ. Stop it already.

I went to the horse track yesterday. Why aren't we all going to the horse track all the time. You get to drink cheap beer, stand outside, watch horses run around in circle, and if you are not me, make some money. It's amazing. The horse track I went to has to have been built in the 1970s. Its like being in a museum. Green and white 1970's design. I want to go back right now.

I think I may have just booked my Saturday nights for the next three months.

Moxie - Got It Right

What a god damn mess out there. I swear.

Some real blazing, disco, madness here. My lord. Nothing makes my feathers stand up more than the words 'disco edit'. I could listen to these things all day. What a brilliant idea too - lets take some unknown disco song, cut out all the filler, dress it up with some production, and focus on nothing but the best parts. Brilliant.

Paradis - Hémisphère

I always thought we were underestimating the ways we should all be using chairs. I feel better that I wasn't the only one bothered by this.

Second single from the Beats In Space label. I feel obligated to post this because of how many songs I blatantly steal from the radio show. Speaking of, Mike Simonetti is going to be on tonight. I might just have to sneak my transistor radio into bed with me tonight, pull the blankets over my head and listen to it under the covers.

This was my last hour: Pizza. I'm not sleepy. Stupid pizza.

Mr Fingers - Can You Feel It

Played hooky today from class. It would have been more fun if I had played hooky for a reason other than to catch up on work.

House music from Chicago circa 1985. Still don't understand how they were able to make this back then. I assumed computers were still the size of a small car that were capable to do all this. Clearly I'm wrong though. I dig it though. Keeping it simple is where all the tension comes from. You don't want to get all mucked up in it because before you know it you're in your own way and tripping over your own two feet. Stupid - keep it simple.

Listening to this and then listen to some Omar S. Someone is either from the future or from the past because they could be the same person.

Things I didn't do today - chase after the Audi with the Romney bumper sticker that almost ran me over downtown. In my head I was going to throw my drink at him and then when the driver got out I was going to lecture him about the errors of Romney's proposed economic policies. I was going to show him who was boss.

I found this track ten minuets ago and it melted my ice cold heart.

R Kelly + Mike Simonetti = YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

Say Please - Teams vs Star Slinger

Holy crap! That's a lion in bed with a teenager. The sixties were an awesome/terrifying place.

We have to hurry and get this one up quick before the rain comes back. It hasn't rained in like five hours so it could be any minute now. I've started building a boat and I'm going to soon start collecting two of every animal. But I'm for sure not sleeping with them. That's just dumb.

Summer tunes. I don't know if it is me but I've been hearing a lot of things that remind me of the The Avalanches this week. Not really a bad thing but I wonder if they created an entire genre of dance music. It's a little Baleric, a little disco, a little oozy. Not bad at all. Just like this tune.

Luomo - Spy (Penner+Muder Remix)

Looks like it was an amazing party.

I had all these great disco, house tracks that sound like they were made by the sun but instead I'm going with this one. It is the brooding, dark groove of the lot. I decided on this one because I got stuck in the rain on the way home tonight. I left for class and it was 82 and sunny. When I left class sheets of water were falling from the sky. These sounds felt more appropriate. The disco and the house tracks are just going to have to wait for another day.

I hope your happy rain.

Disclosure - Blue You

I'm all Cinco de Mayo'd out. Stupid cheap Mexican beer. It makes it really hard to do anything the next day.

I can't for the life of me remember where I came across this track but it's pretty great. Some new British dance, electronic stuff for you Sunday evening.

What's worse, Sunday evenings or Mondays? I suppose Monday's but Sunday evenings are a close second in the suck race.

Traxman - The Comeback

Things I did not do yesterday: I did not touch the small Asian man's face who was behind me in line for coffee even though I really wanted to. It looked really soft. Almost plush. I thought it was fake.

To be honest, I haven't gotten in to a lot of footwork. A feel like a lot of it just gives me a headache. Which explains why I am totally obsessed with this Traxman effort. I find it really beautiful. It's almost delicate - it could break apart at any moment. I think its amazing.

What about a podcast? I'm thinking that we might start doing a reoccurring podcast of featuring our favorite jams at the time. Good idea? Bad Idea? If you think it is a bad idea you are welcome to not respond because I think its a great idea and you are not right. Sorry.

Invisible Conga People "In A Hole"

He was the life of the party.

Some dark as dark can be beats for you this Tuesday. The Invisible Conga People. I like the name. I like the sound. I like all that they got going on here. Creepy, but still has a hidden beat to it. Listen to it loud enough and you just find yourself bopping your head along.

It's been raining for about two days straight here so this sound makes a lot of sense right now. Sometimes you just gotta get down with the creepy stuff for a bit. See how the other half lives. Don't pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about. I know you own a Skinny Puppy or Bauhaus album.

Dude is stuck in a hole. Can't be any fun. What until you get to the dub version, because it literally sounds like he is stuck in a hole in the ground.
