Mike Simonetti - Sweet As Honey

Calculator? Abacus? Calculator-abacus? Yes. Yes. Yes.  I want one now!

I've become a germaphobe. Which, I'm sure is not the technical term, but it fits nice next to my slight case of OCD. All you need to know is that it's been a fun week.

Mike Simonetti. We've posted some of his other stuff around these parts. Head honcho of everyone's favorite nu/old-disco label Italians Do It Better. I am a huge fan of both Mike Simonetti and IDIB. They each bring their own skill sets to the table though. The label is heavy on the Italo-disco sound thing-er and Mike Simonetti is just Mike Simonetti. And that is why I love him. His tracks don't remind me of the label at all and that is why it's great.

This one starts off a little house-y but then evolves into an fancy little joint. The Afro sound is going to be the noticeable part but what is impressive is how he uses it without sounding cliche. It's got that strong percussion driven effort and the call and response lyrics but still holds on to this weird etheral sound that I've noticed from Simonetti's last few tracks.

Hammon Decks - Disgo

BAM!

This one goes out to all of my boys on the SCOTUS! You know who you are - John, Tony, my dog Clarence, Stephen, Sammy, and the realest of them all - Antonin.

Make that paper this week!

Circuit - Release The Tension

You can't leave anything around Brian Wilson. He's like a child - everything ends up in his mouth at some point.

There is a dub version you can find on YouTube of this track. I dare you to tell me what the difference is. I guess the dub version is slightly slower, but that has to be it.

Found this gem on a recent podcast from Little White Earbuds with the guy who runs L.I.E.S. I recommend checking it out if only for the tracklist. "Some Baltimore shit" and "some Jersey shit", for example.

Nothing like listening to a bunch of crazy house/disco real loud on the bus. It's the perfect soundtrack for a slow ride home in the dark, really. It's normally me, a bunch of college students, and the crazies. I think the crazies like the music the best. One women had her tongue out at me and I swear her head was bopping to the beat of the track I was listening to. We shared a moment.

TALK TALK - It's My Life (Tensnake live Edit)

He was the Tim Tebow of the California skateboarding scene in the 1980s.

Yea, this version maybe a little too house-y for some of you but I don't care. It's Talk Talk. And I love Talk Talk. I have a strong memory of lying on my parents' living room floor spring break freshman year and listening to Spirit of Eden. I remember thinking how awesome I that album was and how little I knew what he was signing about. I had no idea what he was talking about but it was beautiful. It was sexy and beautiful and charming all at the same time.

It's My Life isn't a song from that album but this is a pretty fun version. Except for the part where it just abruptly ends. I don't know what that's all about.

I bet that kid was into Talk Talk. He knows what I'm talking about.

Change - Change of Heart (Lapelle Edit)

Yep, that's a Polaroid from the set of Blade Runner. There is more where that came from.

We all know he was android right? Also, this is going to sound really nerdy but I wished that the movie included the plot from the book involving that sheep they were hiding.

Harrison Ford is such a weirdo. Back in the day, before people were taking dirty pictures of themselves with their cellphones this was the only way to do it probably. You needed a Polaroid camera, and you had to take the picture, wait for it to develop, put it in an envelope and mail it to whomever you wanted to surprise. For some reason I find that whole process creepier.

Yea boy, another nice summer-ish, 80's edit. The original is nothing to sneeze at but this version is the preferred 80's edit of the weekend.
